Our story begins with a passion for service and a commitment to our community. In 1982, my father, Rick, founded Day Heights Auto Service with a simple goal: provide the highest quality automotive care with honesty and integrity. A few years later, that same dedication led him to expand our services beyond the shop floor and out onto the road, giving birth to what would become Day Heights Towing.
Around 1988, my father added a single tow truck to the business. At the time, Day Heights Auto Service was already known in the community for quality repairs and personal service, and towing was a natural extension of that commitment. It started small, just one truck used to support our auto repair customers when they needed help the most. But even in those early days, it was clear that towing wasn’t just an add-on service. It was an essential part of how we cared for our community.
By 1995, with demand growing and the original truck nearing the end of its life, he purchased two newer trucks to replace it. From that point forward, our towing operation stayed modest, two trucks and two drivers, focused primarily on providing timely, dependable service to the same loyal customers who trusted us with their repairs.
When I began working alongside my dad, we continued operating with those two trucks and two dedicated drivers. We weren’t trying to grow towing as a standalone business at the time. It remained a way to extend our service and help our auto repair clients when they needed us the most. Eventually, we added a third truck to keep pace with demand and to ensure we could remain reliable, but towing still took a back seat to our primary focus on automotive service.
Then in 2020, when I officially purchased the shop, I faced a big decision: Should we continue towing simply to support the repair side, or should we invest in it as a full-scale operation? I decided to lean in.
With the support of Tim Beckler, now our Towing Operations Manager, we began building something special. Tim isn’t new to towing, he’s been part of our journey for years. He started with us as one of our original tow truck drivers, running a truck from 2008 through 2019 with the same dedication and customer-first attitude that defined our family business.
In 2019, Tim transitioned into a service advisor role, working alongside me at the front counter in our automotive repair shop. As both sides of the business continued to grow and evolve, it became clear that we needed a strong leader to take the reins on towing. When we made the decision to invest in and expand our towing division, we asked Tim to step up, and he delivered. His experience, leadership, and deep understanding of our values made him the perfect fit to lead the next phase of our towing operation.
In 2021, we added two more trucks and began bringing on new team members, including Ashley Neal, who joined us as a dispatcher. Together, Ashley and Tim worked tirelessly, with my guidance, to establish the systems and structure we needed to grow sustainably and serve more drivers across the region.
Since then, our progress has been remarkable. Today, Day Heights Towing operates a fleet of 10 trucks, running multiple shifts around the clock. We’ve built a dedicated team of 18 employees in the towing division alone, including skilled drivers, dispatchers, and support staff. Our mission remains the same: to provide fast, professional, and compassionate service to anyone in need, whether it’s a roadside breakdown, recovery, or commercial tow.
Just like our roots in auto repair, Day Heights Towing is built on trust, reliability, and a deep commitment to our community. We’re proud of our growth, proud of our people, and proud to continue a legacy started by my father over 40 years ago.
